Jhalkathi The long term “Rupsi Bangla” fair has started at Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium. There are more than hundred stalls and more than 10 pavilions here. The sportsmen here have expressed their anger for organizing the fair in the playground. Everyone’s question is why fair in the playground? There is also confusion about how long this fair will last. Many people related to the fair said that although this fair was supposed to be held for seven days on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the poet Jibanananda Das, the district administration gave approval for 15 days by allocating the playground after considering the business side of the fair shop owners and management committee. However, M/s Chameli Traders, the organizing body of the fair, has announced that this fair will continue for a month regardless of the approval period given by the Deputy Commissioner.
The regular practice of players of different ages at the Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium in Jhalkathi was stopped on Friday, February 3. The work of preparing the fair ground started at noon that day. And so 15 days before the start of the fair, the sport is stopped here. According to the announcement of the authorities, if the activities of the fair continue for a month, then all kinds of sports will be stopped here till next March. And so many have expressed their anger. Football and cricket players who practice regularly in this field said that the change of the field after the fair will be terrible. Because sharp objects, broken glass, nails from pavilion and stall construction work, various hard objects will be left on the field. From which the players will be bloody injured.’ The director of the fair is the owner of Khulna Chameli Traders. Russell said, ‘Initially we have taken permission for 15 days to run the fair, we are trying to increase the time by another 15 days before the end of this period. On the other hand, Kriramodi has raised the demand to the Deputy Commissioner that the time of the fair should not be increased considering the players.
Jhalkathi District Sports Association General Secretary Al Mamun Khan Dhalu said, ‘I know that the fair authorities will vacate this ground after the next 15 days. But the field will not be suitable for sports. The soil of the whole field should be sieved and made suitable for sports. And if the fair goes on for a month, then the condition of the field will be terrible. Monirul Islam Talukdar, President of Jhalkathi Bankers’ Association, said on the phone, “Since Ramadan and Eid are coming, if the fair time is extended, the local businessmen will face a big loss. Clothing, footwear, cosmetics traders will soon formally apply to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard
