Parabon has been destroyed by fire in the museum area of Pechhar Dwip of Ramur Khuniapalang Union on Marine Drive Road in Cox’s Bazar. Thousands of small and large trees of various species including Bain, Keora of Parabon have been cut down indiscriminately. Bird habitat including biodiversity is being destroyed by fire. Parabon has already been occupied by the border pillars. It has been alleged that the local Haroon bin Hashem and former UP member Kamal Uddin Kamal are destroying approximately five acres of Paraban by force. Earlier, construction of boundary wall by cutting Paraban, construction of dam to stop tides, excavation of canal for fishing with excavators and 20,000 The company named Kingshuk Farms Limited caused extensive destruction by cutting more trees. In this situation, the local residents and conscious community expressed their concern about the destruction of biodiversity and bird habitat. Ramu upazila executive officer and environment department officials visited the scene after the news of Kingshuk Farms’ parabon killing was published in the media. Before the root of the incident happened, the adjacent Paraban was set on fire. Local residents said that the Coastal Forest Department had created Paraban around 20 years ago in the western side of the museum area of Pechhar Dwip. The area became a dense paraforest, tidal creek, biodiversity and bird habitat. The place belonged to Government No. 1 Khas Khatian. But now it is talking about registered private ownership in the settlement and there is a lot of destruction going on there. Local Harun Bin Hashem and former UP member Kamal Uddin Kamal started harvesting parabons for a long time after talking about buying from registered persons. On March 2, Paraban was permanently occupied with border pillars. After that, parabon cutting started in full swing. Last Thursday (March 9), Harun Bin Hashem personally set fire to the branches of the tree cut in Parabon by the local Jagir Hossain. Thus destruction is being carried out in Paraban. This is destroying the environment and biodiversity of the area. When asked about this, Harun bin Hashem said that he does not have any land there. He also claimed that he was not involved in the matter of cutting down trees and setting them on fire in Paraban. Former UP member Kamal Uddin Kamal said, he is not involved in the incident. However, some people in the area have heard that they are involved in this work. President of Cox’s Bazar Forest and Environment Conservation Council Deepak Sharma Dipu said that the manner in which paraforests are encroached and thousands of trees are being destroyed in the daytime is worrying. Even though these biodiversity destructive activities are carried out in the environment and environment critical areas, the concerned administration is not taking any action. It is more worrying. The environmentalists demanded to stop these environmentally destructive activities and take legal action against those involved. In this regard, local UP member Shafiqul Islam Sohail said that Harun Bin Hashem was demanding private ownership of some houses of the local people based on getting an attorney. If there is a problem, we go there and see when the boundary pillars are given. Saw some parts of Parabon cut off. However, it is not known who cut it. I did not get any information about setting fire to Paraban. Khuniapalang Union Land Assistant Officer (Tahsildar) of Ramu Upazila Abshar Kamal said that I have heard about putting boundary pillars on some privately owned lands. Don’t know about cutting and burning parabon there. The news should be reported. Directorate of Environment Cox’s Bazar Office Deputy Director Md. Hafizur Rahman said that legal measures are being taken regarding cutting parabon under the banner of an organization named Kingshuk Farms Limited in the area, putting a boundary wall inside the parabon and damaging the environment by cutting the soil with an excavator. It is not known about cutting the parabon and setting it on fire on its northern side. Action will be taken against those involved after investigating the matter.
