The government has decided to observe the National Local Government Day to strengthen the relationship between the people and the public representatives. Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam said this in an exchange of views and press conference in view of the decision to celebrate the National Local Government Day at the cabinet meeting yesterday. The press conference was held today in the conference room of the local government department. He said that to build the golden Bangladesh of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, there is no alternative to strengthen the local government system. At this time, he said, the local government system ensures the rule of the grassroots people. The local government minister said that it is possible to deliver all the civic benefits of the city to the people of the village only through the local government system. For this reason, the importance of observing the National Local Government Day is immense. He also said that the Local Government Department will observe National Local Government Day in wards, unions, municipalities and cities to highlight the importance and significance of local government system. The minister said that by observing the National Local Government Day, local government institutions can continue their democratic practices and be developed as people-oriented institutions. At this time, he said, there is a need for the involvement of people’s representatives and people of remote areas in celebrating Local Government Day. The current government is determined to streamline services and bring services to people’s doorsteps. It was presided over by the Secretary of Local Government Department, Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam and Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat IV were also present.
