Sr. Staff Reporter: Tomorrow Sunday is the last day to submit nomination papers for the presidential election candidates. Nomination papers must be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) by 4 pm. Secretary of the EC Secretariat. Jahangir Alam told BASS, “According to the election schedule, nomination papers can be submitted to the office of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) till 4 pm on February 12 (Sunday).” Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted from 13 February 10 am and withdrawal of nomination papers will be possible till 4 pm on 14 February. The country’s 22nd presidential election will be held on February 19 at the Jatiya Sangsad Complex from 2 pm to 5 pm. The President holds the post for a period of 5 years from the date of assumption of office. The current president. Abdul Hamid assumed charge on April 24, 2018. Accordingly, his 5-year tenure will end on April 23. According to the constitution, members of Parliament are voters in presidential elections. Awami League has an absolute majority in the present parliament. In that case, there is no possibility of any party other than Awami League giving a candidate in the presidential election. If there is one candidate for the presidency, the election does not require a meeting or a vote of Parliament.
