Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Dr. Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury MP was met by Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. According to a press release received today in Dhaka, this meeting was held on Saturday evening at the convention cluster room of Exhibition World Bahrain with the speaker visiting Bahrain’s capital Manama on the occasion of the 146th IPU conference. During the meeting, they discussed Bangladesh-India long friendly relations, mutual cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals, progress of Bangladesh etc. Speaker said that Bangladesh is India’s true friend. India’s role for Bangladesh during the Great War of Liberation is still remembered with gratitude by the people of this country. Strengthening people-to-people relations at the regional and global levels is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He said that through mutual cooperation India-Bangladesh together can achieve sustainable development goals by 2030. In view of India taking the leadership of the G-20 Forum, Speaker Dr. Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury congratulated the Indian leadership through Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that friendly relations between India and Bangladesh are getting stronger. Cooperation between the two countries is strengthening in various fields including electricity, energy, communication system, infrastructure management. Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha Om Birla said that the Indian Lok Sabha will organize the P-20 conference to strengthen parliamentary relations as part of the G-20 activities, to which the Speaker of the Bangladesh National Assembly has already been invited. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury thanked the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for this invitation and said that to ensure public welfare, the relationship and communication between the people’s representative parliamentarians should be made closer. Taking this opportunity of G20 leadership, the Indian Lok Sabha can take strong action in this regard. In today’s world, everyone’s participation is essential to solve the post-Covid crisis. In the contemporary context of artificial intelligence, cyber security, etc., no country can deal with the crisis in isolation. Bangladesh is moving forward as a result of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership determination and dedication. The poverty rate in the country has come down from forty to twenty one percent. Appreciating the unprecedented progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Om Birla said that the Government of India is very happy with the transition of Bangladesh as a developing country. Om Birla expressed hope that India’s cooperation in matters of mutual interest will continue. Meanwhile, Md. Shahe Alam MP, Razi Mohammad Fakhrul MP, Umme Kulsoom Smriti MP, Rahgir Almahi Ershaf MP, Umme Fatema Najma Begum MP, Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat Senior Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary MA Kamal Billah and senior officials were present.
