Various developments have been achieved in Barakal upazila under the current Awami League government. Rangamati Member of Parliament and President of the Standing Committee on Food Ministry, MP Dipankar Talukdar, spoke as the chief guest at the centenary celebration program organized by the Barakal police station on Saturday morning, 4th March. Rangamati Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid, BPM (Bar) presided over the meeting as special guests were Rangamati District Commissioner Md. Mizanur Rahman, Zilla Parishad Chairman Angsuiproo Chowdhury and members Sabir Kumar Chakma, Upazila Parishad Chairman Bidhan Chakma, Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Najma Binte. Amin Baghaichhari and Barakal Police Station (Additional) Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdul Awal, Sublong Army Camp Commander Md. Khalid Mahrus, Rangamati Municipal Mayor Md. Akbar Hossain Chowdhury etc. Speaking as the chief guest, MP Dipankar Talukdar said that other upazilas of Rangamati have seen less celebrations like Barakal upazila. He said that he was blessed to be present at the centenary event. He also said that there was nothing in Barakal upazila before. But under the leadership of the leader Sheikh Hasina, there have been various developments including electricity facilities, schools and colleges. Besides, there was no administrative building in Barakal upazila. Buildings and executive officers’ buildings have been constructed. There will be more development in Barakal upazila in future. If the Awami League government is given a chance to come to power. And in the near future land port will be built in the border area for socio-economic development in Barakal upazila. Along with dredging of Karnaphuli river to facilitate communication. MP Dipankar Talukder assured that it will happen. Speaking as a special guest, Deputy Commissioner Md. Mizanur Rahman said that waterway dredging will be done very quickly. He wished the remote areas to be enlightened with the light of education in Barakal. Also, as long as he stays in Rangamati during his working life, he will cooperate with the people of Barakal for overall development. Zilla Parishad Chairman Angsuiproo Chowdhury said, in remote and remote areas like Barkal, the lawless forces are working on the side of the people for security despite many limitations. Which can be said to be truly commendable. We must move forward in harmony with the country and the nation. Under the leadership of Hasina, the peace agreement was executed in 1997. The hill ministry was created to advance the backward communities. The regional councils were created. And above all, the zilla councils were created in the three hill districts. There is no benefit in fearing that language and culture will be lost.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Bidhan Chakma said, Barkal thana was a very old police station. In the past, the communication system was underdeveloped. At that time, people used to travel by canoe. Not only that, Barakal police station had no civic facilities when those who were in charge of administrative work. Even Barakal had no electricity facility and mobile network system. But in present time Barakal has got electricity facility and mobile network facility. However, some remote areas in 5 unions are still not covered by mobile network and electricity has not reached. Rangamati Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid said, Barakal Police Station was established in 1923. Today, the context of Barakal Police Station in 1923 is not the same as the current police station. The police are working to do this. The sensibility of those who established and maintained the Barakal police station in 1923, their needs are still retained among the people of Barakal area. Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Barkal Press Club President Shanti Moy Chakma along with Rangamati and Barkal police officers, public representatives, mass media workers, Traditional leaders and dignitaries were present. At the end of the meeting, various sports materials and cultural equipment were distributed to 16 educational institutions by the Zilla Parishad and 194 financial grants were given by the Department of Social Welfare.
