Brahmanbaria Correspondent: District level Sheikh Kamal Inter:School and Madrasa Athletics Competition was held at Niaz Muhammad Stadium in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday. More than four hundred students from nine upazilas, including the district headquarters, participated in 32 events.
In the morning, the competition was inaugurated by the chief guest of the program, Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijayanagar) Constituency. A. M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury. Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria presided over Shahgir Alam.
Going to the stadium, it can be seen that young students are running all over the stadium. Some are running, some are busy throwing heavy balls, throwing heavy wheels. Some are participating in competitions like high jump and long jump.
Shanta Akhter, a student from Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila who took part in running, said, ‘I have participated in several sports including running and weight ball. We want athletics competition to continue along with studies.’
Another student named Asaduzzaman Noor said, ‘We want such arrangements to be held regularly. In this, we who are school students can participate in sports along with studies. We hope that good quality players will come out of this in the future.’
Mahabubul Bari Chowdhury Montu, General Secretary of the District Sports Association, said, ‘We have a plan to participate in the divisional level by selecting the district level from here. We hope that national level players will emerge from here.’
Brahmanbaria District Commissioner Md. Shahgir Alam said, ‘This competition has been organized under the patronage of Bangladesh Athletics Federation. Sheikh Kamal Inter:School and Madrasa Athletics Competition is being held from Union level to Upazila and District level. I hope there will be such an event in the future. There are also some sports in athletics competition which were getting lost day by day. If they can be restored through this competition, the success of the event will be found.’
R. A. M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury MP said, ‘Sheikh Kamal’s contribution to sports was unforgettable. We hope that the young society will follow the example of Sheikh Kamal and stay away from drugs. Through this organization, one day the youth will shine the face of the country in the field of sports. I hope that one day the children of this Brahmanbaria will be able to participate in the Olympic games for the country.’
