A video of chainman Bajlur Rahman of Patuakhali’s Bauphal Upazila Land Office accepting bribe has gone viral on social media. When the video went viral on social media on Wednesday, March 22, it instantly went viral. In the video, chainman Bazlur Rahman is seen taking money from a man and counting. After finishing counting the money, he puts it in his pocket with a smile on his face. Many negative comments were made after the 34-second video of him taking a bribe while sitting at the table in the office went viral. They demanded exemplary punishment by bringing chainman Bajlur Rahma under the law.
According to upazila land office sources, 10 to 12 thousand taka is taken for registration at Bauphal land office. Chainman Bajlu collected the bribe money with his own hands. Bazlur Rahman has been given the responsibility of collecting money and controlling all office files. For this he has been allotted a room with chair table. Bazlur Rahman also has the reputation of being a confidant of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land). Other officials and employees are helpless to the power of Bazlur Rahman as a self-proclaimed official of the office.
The sub-assistant land officer, on condition of anonymity, said that all the files and expenses for issuing names should be paid to Bajlu. Bajlu calculates A and B categories and demands bribe for each file. If bribe money is not paid, the name is not issued. A few days ago the retired health and family planning officer of Baufal. Shah Alam held a press conference and human chain protesting the irregularities and corruption of the land office.
However, denying these allegations, chainman Bazlur Rahman said, I am not in charge of any file. Bribery or taking money from someone unethically is not true.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Bayejidur Rahman said, according to the Citizen Charter, the registration is done with the fixed fee. Legal action will be taken if anyone makes a specific complaint about the viral video.
