There were also Bangladeshis in the Karmandal Express train that was hit by an accident at Baleshwar in Odisha. Their exact number is not known, but at least 15 Bangladeshi passengers have been rescued from the accident site. In the meantime, a three-member team from Bangladesh’s vice-embassy in Kolkata has left for Odisha to search for Bangladeshi passengers.
Many people of Bangladesh go to India for medical treatment. Some of them were treated in Kolkata, many went to Chennai-Bangalore. Such Bangladeshi travelers usually travel by Karamandal Express. As a result, the news of the train accident spread concern among Bangladeshis. Many started to inquire about the close relatives. For their convenience, a hotline has also been set up by the Consular Embassy of Bangladesh in Kolkata.
A team of three members has been sent from the vice-embassy to the spot to find out how many Bangladeshis were in the accident train and their condition. As of last reported, a total of 15 Bangladeshi nationals have been rescued from the stricken train. However, it is not known how many Bangladeshis were in the two passenger trains that collided.
Minaj Uddin, a resident of Mymensingh, Bangladesh, was on the Karamandal Express. He was going to Chennai for treatment. But he witnessed a terrible accident on Friday evening. Minaj Uddin said, “I was in B-3 room of Karamandal Express.” I have never seen such a big train accident before. Our previous room was completely gutted. None of the Bengalis who were there can be found.
However, two Bangladeshi nationals were found among the injured. They too had left West Bengal for Chennai for treatment. Both were seriously injured in the accident. They were rescued and admitted to Fakir Mohan Medical College in Baleshwar, Odisha. Later, he was shifted to Sriram Chandra Bhanj Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for better treatment.
Doctor T Suresh Kumar Gupta of Orthopedic Department of Fakir Mohan Medical College confirmed the matter and said that two Bangladeshis were admitted here after being injured in a train accident. Both have lower body damage, skin condition is not good.
