Rapid Action Battalion RAB-3 has been working with great sincerity and dedication to eliminate various types of crimes including drugs, weapons, militants since its inception. In the past 6 months, 100 convicts were arrested by conducting 99 raids against various death-sentenced and life-sentenced convicts, including 71 war criminals. In continuation of this, on the basis of secret information, a raid team of RAB-3 was able to arrest Abu Muslim Muhammad Ali (70), who was sentenced to death by the International Criminal Tribunal in the case of crimes against humanity in 1971 and who has been on the run for a long time, from Demra area of the capital. In a press conference at the head office of RAB-3 in the afternoon, the captain of RAB-3 Lt. Col. Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed said that seven charges of crimes against humanity including murder, genocide, kidnapping, torture, looting, arson and rape were brought against the arrested accused in 1971. The arrested accused Abu Muslim Mohammad Ali was one of the organizers of the Islami Chhatra Sangh formed in 1971 and an active member of Sundarganj Thana Jamaat-e-Islami of Gaibandha. He was also an active member of the Shanti Committee and carried out looting and various types of sabotage activities in the area. Also, since July 1971, under the leadership of Gaibandha District Chief Maulana Mumtaz Uddin of the Peace Committee, many others including the arrested accused were carrying out anti-human activities including murder, genocide, kidnapping, torture, looting, arson, rape in that area.
On October 9, 1971, due to previous hostilities, the peace committee led by notorious dacoit Md. Abdur Rahim Mia and arrested accused Abu Muslim Muhammad Ali along with Abu Saleh, Abdul Latif, Ruhul Amin, Nazmul and other notorious Razakars and a group of Pakistani Army at Malibari at 8.30 am. The villagers attacked Ganesh Chandra Barman’s house, looted it and brutally tortured the members of the house. At one stage houses were burnt by arson.After that, when Ganesh Chandra Barman was insolent to lift his wife, son, friend Akbar Ali and neighbors Mohammad Ali and Mansoor Ali came forward, the arrested accused and his accomplices beat them severely and at one point arrested them and took them to the nearby Daryapur Bridge. There Ganesha tied Chandravarman’s hands and feet and brutally hit his face and body to ensure his death. They took the arrested Akbar Ali, Mohammad Ali and Mansoor Ali to Kamarjani army camp and beat and tortured them. Akbar Ali was killed in the camp by electric shock and torture in front of two other people present. The case was later transferred to the International Criminal Tribunal in 2014. He never appeared in court during the trial. He left his area and went into hiding since 2013 after the case was filed. After an in-depth investigation, every charge brought against the defendants was proven by the prosecution, and in 2017, the International Criminal Tribunal sentenced the defendant to death. Out of the other 5 defendants accused in this case, 1 is currently in Jordan, 1 is in jail, 2 are absconding and 01 has died while on the run. Abu Muslim Muhammad Ali has been closely associated with the Islami Chhatra Sangh, Jamaat-e-Islami and the Razakar forces of the peace committee organized during the war since 1971. During the war of liberation, accused Muslim and his Razakar group carried out attacks and sabotage activities in various places in the area in collaboration with the Peace Committee and the Pakistani occupation forces and carried out anti-human activities including murder, genocide, abduction, torture, looting, arson and rape. From 2013 to 2015, the accused was in hiding at a relative’s house in Sundarganj police station after the case was filed. In 2015, when he applied for bail in the ongoing case at the International Criminal Tribunal, the learned court denied him bail. Then, when the arrest warrant was issued by the tribunal, in 2016, he escaped from the east and went to a secluded pasture called Belkar Char on the banks of the Gaibandha Teesta river and went into hiding. While in hiding, he used pseudonyms to keep his personal identity hidden.
