The permanent workers have made a three-point demand to reopen the closed state-owned jute mills, pay all outstanding dues and savings certificates before Eid and take action against corrupt officials. The workers have announced a gate meeting, handing out memorandum and human chain program from March 31 in this demand. In a press conference at the Khulna Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, the committee for collecting the fair dues of permanent workers of the state-owned jute mill made this demand. It was said in the press conference that on July 2, 2020, the government announced the simultaneous closure of 25 state-owned jute mills. The government promised to pay all dues of all workers within two months and restart production of all closed mills within three months. But even after long 32 months, savings certificates and other dues of permanent workers have not been paid. Workers are unemployed but corrupt officials remain. In this situation, their demands must be implemented before Eid. The labor leaders said that there will be a gate meeting on March 31, a memorandum will be handed over on April 3 and a human chain will be held on the 10th of the appeal. Even if the demand is not met, a stricter schedule will be given. The member secretary of debt-deprived permanent labor organization Mohammad Ali, labor leaders Alamgir Kabir, Alamgir Hossain, Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam and others were present in the press conference.
