Nine people were killed in Pakistan and four more in Afghanistan after an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan. The tremors of the quake were felt in several North Indian states too. Strong tremors felt in Delhi. Nine people were killed in Pakistan after a major earthquake of 6.5 magnitude struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on Tuesday. Four more people died in Afghanistan from the quake. Strong tremors were also felt in northern India. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake was in Afghanistan’s Jurm at a depth of 180 kilometers. According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter Scale hit 133 km SSE of Faizabad, Afghanistan, at 10:17 pm.
At least 44 people were injured in Pakistan, reported Reuters, citing a government official. Hospitals in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were put into a state of emergency overnight after more than 100 people were admitted in a state of shock. Pakistan’s Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel issued an emergency alert at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) as well as the Federal Government Polyclinic, reported Geo News. In Afghanistan, where the quake had its epicenter, at least 50 people were injured apart from the four who were killed. Strong tremors of the earthquake were felt in several North Indian states, including Delhi-NCR. The earthquake was also felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan
