More then 19 people were killed when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in Kutubpur of Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur. About 30 passengers were injured at this time. The bus met with an accident at Panchchar area on the approach road of Padma Bridge on Sunday morning. The matter was confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Highway Police Station, Abu Naim Md. Mofazzal Haq. Locals said that a bus of Imad Paribahan leaving Khulna for Dhaka on Sunday morning lost control and fell down in Qutubpur area before Padma Bridge. At this time, the bus twisted in two. The bodies of 14 people were recovered from the bus till 8:30 am. Besides, two more people died on the way to the hospital. The death toll has reached 19. The fire service said that the death toll may increase. Immediately after the accident, the locals came forward for rescue work. After receiving information, police and fire service personnel came to the spot. The highway police said that 30 people have been injured so far. After rescuing the injured, they were admitted to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex.
