Firoz Alom , Staff reporter: Blacksmiths in different parts of Patuakhali are busy with the sound of tung tang ahead of Eid al-Adha. The hammers are being pulled, coal is burning, and iron is burning. Blacksmiths are making various meat cutting tools including axes, axes, knives, and more by beating them with hammers. Although there is not much sales at the moment, they work hard all day, but there is no excitement or lively smile on their faces. Still, blacksmiths are busy with new hopes in mind for the upcoming Eid al-Adha. The blacksmith neighborhoods, filled with the sound of hammers and iron, are busy until Eid. However, due to the increase in the prices of coal and iron, everything is not as profitable as before. Many also said that they are continuing to work to sustain the business of their ancestors. Blacksmiths work hard from morning to night every day. Every year, the purchase and sale of their goods increases during Eid al-Adha. The money earned from this provides them with food for the whole year. Those involved in the blacksmithing industry spend most of the year unemployed.
It is known from various areas of the district that blacksmiths are busy making chapatis, da, bati, knives, and sharpening old da bati knives. Everyone is working until late at night. It is known from talking to many that every year during the Eid of Sacrifice, the demand for various iron items including da, bati, knives, chapatis increases, so they earn a good income during this season. However, this time, disappointment has surrounded them. It can be said that there is no sale at all.
A blacksmith said, “There are no buyers, so he won’t sell again! And Eid will come in a few days. Other times, the market for da-bati gathers at this time, but this time there is no sale and no buyers come. Even two or three da-bati are not sold throughout the day.” Blacksmiths said, this Eid season is our main target this year. When you think of making good money and earning good money for a few days in the year, you focus on these days. Even though you earned a few thousand taka last Eid, there was not much left to pay the craftsmen. I thought that more orders would come around the sacrifice. But the situation is completely different now. Other blacksmiths also said the same thing. Now they hope that sales will increase a little as Eid approaches. They are not stopping with that goal and are making one thing after another.
The buyers said that Eid is in a few days. Knives and machetes are needed to slaughter cows and goats and cut meat. That is why they came to the market to buy axes, axes and machetes. However, the prices of these items are slightly higher this year than last year.
