A person named Shafiq Mridha (55) has been charged with stabbing injuries under the leadership of Baufal of Patuakhali. The incident took place in front of Shaplakhali Latif’s shop in Baga Union of the upazila on Saturday morning. The injured Shafiq Mridha Baga is the former vice-president of the Union Juba Dal.

According to related sources, Shafiq Mridha of Shaplakhali area of Baga Union has a previous dispute with his nephew UP member Suman Mridha. Shafiq Mridha sat at Latif’s shop at Shaplakhali intersection after his morning tour on Saturday morning. At that time, 8/10 terrorists led by Baga Union Parishad Chairman Mahmdu Hasan and nephew Suman Mridha, son of Upazila Chairman Abdul Motaleb Howlader, cut Shafiq Mridha with sharp weapons and left him on the road. Locals rescued Shafiq Mridha and took him to Baufal Upazila Health Complex. Later, Shafiq Mridha was sent to Barisal Sherbangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition and later referred to Dhaka National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics Rehabilitation (Pangu) Hospital at night.

Denying the attack, UP Chairman Mahmud Hasan and UP member Sumen Mridha said, “I don’t know anything about it.”

Arichul Haque, OC of Baufal police station, said that no written complaint has been received so far, if any complaint is received, legal action will be taken.
