First win against Nepal, revenge for group stage loss and first ever SAFF U-20 Championship title. Bangladesh is like ‘killing three birds with one stone’.
Bangladesh footballers created another history by defeating the hosts 4-1 in the final of SAFF U-20 Championship at Anfa Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday.
After the first gold in the South Asian Games football, the only title in the women’s section, this time Bangladesh became the champion in the under-20 section in Nepal.
In the first half, the host Nepal played with dominance, but due to the failure of the forwards and the determination of the goalkeeper, Bangladesh could not take the lead.
Bangladesh get a free-kick outside the box shortly before the half-time whistle. Mirazul Islam was dropped when he came in with the ball. A great free-kick taken by Mirazul hit the post and went into Nepal’s net (1-0).
In the 55th minute, Asadul’s cross from the left side, Asad Mollah’s head dropped in front of the goalkeeper and went in front of Mirazul who was standing empty. This time he did not make a mistake, he sent the ball to the net of Nepal (2-0).
Another goal of Bangladesh in 71 minutes. Mirazul also contributed to this goal. Rabbi Hossain Rahul scored his extended ball and Bangladesh went ahead by 3-0.
In the 81st minute, the host Nepal (3-1) narrowed the gap due to the mistakes of Bangladesh’s defense and goalkeeper. However, in the sixth minute of injury time, Bangladesh made up for the loss. Rabbi Hussain Rahul’s cross from the left was scored by Piyash Ahmed Nova to make the difference 4-1. The red-green jersey holders cheered for victory.
