Arrest warrants have been issued against 15 people, including Tajul Islam, the former Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the ousted Awami League government.
The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Farhana Sultana of Comilla’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Court No. 8 on Tuesday (May 6).
Plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Kaimul Haque Rinku, confirmed the matter.
Other accused for whom arrest warrants have been issued include LGRD Minister’s brother-in-law and Laksam Upazila Vice Chairman Mohabbat Ali, Laksam Municipality Mayor Professor Abul Khair, Councilor Mohammad Ullah, Bipulasar Union Parishad Chairman Iqbal Mahmud, Gobindapur Union Chairman Nizam Uddin Shamim, Kandirpar Union Chairman Omar Faruk, Councilor Khalilur Rahman, Manoharganj Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman and Minister’s nephew Amirul Islam, Tajul Development Coordinator Kamal Hossain, Jahangir Alam, Azgra Union Chairman Nazrul Islam, Ruhul Amin, Abdul Quader Shahin and Kawsar Ahmed.
According to court sources, a case was filed in the court against 15 people, including former minister Tajul Islam, and 90 other unidentified people, alleging extortion, assault, vandalism, looting, and attempted murder of his family on the night of August 3, 2024, on the road in front of the bypass market in the Nasharatpur area of ​​Laksam Municipality, and on the night of Sunday, August 18, in houses.
After the Laksam Police Station submitted a report to the court after the investigation, the truth of the incident was found. On Tuesday afternoon, court judge Farhana Sultana issued an arrest warrant against 15 accused, including former LGRD Minister Tajul Islam.
It is worth noting that Laksam Municipality BNP Joint Convener Monir Ahmed filed the case on August 27 at Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate No. 6 Administrative Court.
