A case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader for killing grocery shopkeeper Abu Saeed.
On Tuesday (August 13), a person named SM Amir Hamza filed a case in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury’s court. There has been no hearing on this matter yet. The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff. He said he would give the order later.
The other defendants in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner Md. Harun Ur Rashid and Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar.
Abu Saeed was killed at the 40 feet intersection in Bachila under Mohammadpur police station on July 19 around 4 pm when the police fired indiscriminately on students and common people during the quota reform movement.
This is the first case filed against the former prime minister after he left the country and sought refuge in India on August 5 in the face of mass protests.
The plaintiff in the case is businessman SM Amir Hamza Shatil, a resident of Adabar area. He filed this case as a conscious citizen seeking justice for killing an innocent citizen.
It has been said in the complaint of the case that thousands of students and people have recently held a procession in the quota reform movement. Those peaceful marches were fired indiscriminately in different parts of the country. Many students were killed and injured. On July 19, the students were holding a peaceful procession in the 40 feet area of Basila in Mohammadpur. Police fired indiscriminately there too. Abu Sayed, a local grocer, was shot in the head while crossing the road. He died on the spot.
The complaint further states that the deceased Saeed was taken to his village home in Boda of Panchagarh and buried in the new slum Pradhan Hat. His mother, wife, son live there. Because of this, they are unable to come to Dhaka and file a case. That is why he filed this case to establish the rule of law in pursuit of conscience.
In the complaint of the case, the plaintiff also said that the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has repeatedly ordered to suppress the quota reform movement with a strong hand. On the orders of Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Kamal, the IGP and senior officers of the police opened fire on the procession on the orders of the subordinate policemen. The accused committed the murder in mutual connivance. So it needs to be judged.
