The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) raided Cox’s Bazar regional passport office and arrested two brokers and sentenced them to 10 days in jail through a mobile court. Last Monday (February 20), a raid was conducted at the regional passport office adjacent to Gol Chattar of the city. The convicts are Cox’s Bazar. Abdu Sabur (32) son of deceased Abdur Rahim of Ward No. 11 of Dakshin Baharchhara and Monir Uddin (60) son of Sabbir Ahmad of Shil Khali Union of Pekua Upazila. Cox’s Bazar District Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director of Integrated Office Riaz Uddin said that at Cox’s Bazar Regional Passport Office The operation was conducted in the wake of the complaint that the service aspirants were being charged extra money for the fees fixed by the government. At this time, 2 people were arrested. Later, District Administration Executive Magistrate Syeda Shahzadi Mahabuba sentenced each of the 2 arrested persons to 10 days imprisonment after admitting their involvement in passport related work through brokering. He said that raids will continue in this office on a regular basis. ACC official Riaz also said that two of them were initially interrogated after receiving information about widespread irregularities in the passport office. The other one escaped. Executive Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar District Administration Syeda Shahzadi Mahabooba said that obstructing government work and harassing customers. 2 brokers arrested on charges have been sentenced to 10 days imprisonment each under Section 186 of Penal Code 1860.
