With the theme “We will cultivate our fruits, preserve them for twelve months” – the National Fruit Fair has started in Joypurhat in a very festive atmosphere. The fair was inaugurated with a colorful ceremony on Tuesday morning at the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
The formal inauguration and discussion meeting of the fair was held. The inauguration ceremony organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamarbari, Joypurhat was presided over by the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, A. K. M. Sadiqul Islam.
Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Al-Mamun Mia was present as the chief guest at the ceremony and declared the fair auspicious. Joypurhat District Council Administrator Masud Rana Pradhan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Rafsia Jahan were present as special guests.
​After the inaugural discussion, the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner and other guests visited the stalls of various fruits participating in the fair. Various nutritious and endangered fruits produced locally and nationally were exhibited in the stalls. During the visit to the fair, the guests talked about modern technology of fruit cultivation and various ways of preserving fruits for twelve months and urged the common people to plant more fruit trees.
​Other officials of the local administration, agricultural officers, farmer representatives and media personnel were present at the inaugural ceremony. The speakers expressed their hope that the fair would play an important role in increasing fruit cultivation and nutrition awareness among the local people.
