A significant agreement for humanitarian assistance worth 16 million Australian dollars (about 137 crore taka) has been signed to improve the lives of the Rohingya and the local community.

The agreement was signed between the Australian Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the presence of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Bangladesh Secretariat today.

Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle and UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers signed the agreement at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

At the event, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the continued cooperation of the Australian Government in humanitarian assistance activities for the Rohingya and the local community is highly commendable. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Australian Government for this assistance.

At the time, the Minister also said that Bangladesh expects the cooperation of the international community to continue until the voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya to Myanmar is ensured.

According to the agreement, UNICEF will spend the funds provided by Australia on education, nutrition, child protection, safe water, sanitation and hygiene for the Rohingya and local communities.

According to sources from the Ministry of Home Affairs, this assistance is part of Australia’s 370 million Australian dollars (approximately 3,162 crore taka) humanitarian assistance package announced for the Rohingya and local communities in Myanmar and Bangladesh for the period 2026-2028.
