Kalihati (Tangail) Correspondent : A raid by the Narcotics Control Department in Nagbari Union of Kalihati Upazila of Tangail has recovered 6 kg 500 grams of marijuana. A woman has been arrested on charges of storing and selling marijuana, but the main accused father-in-law has fled.
The drive was conducted in Kadim Kharsila village of the upazila on Sunday (June 14) at the initiative of the Narcotics Control Department, District Office, Tangail.
According to the department, based on secret information, it was learned that Md. Zahid Mia (54), a resident of Kadim Kharsila village, was storing and selling marijuana in his house with the help of his daughter-in-law. Based on this information, a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Rashidul Islam conducted a raid on the house.
During the raid, 6 kg 500 grams of marijuana were recovered from the house. During this time, Zahid Mia’s daughter-in-law Marfuza Sultana (24) and her husband Nayan Ahmed were arrested. However, Zahid Mia managed to escape during the raid.
A regular case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed at Kalihati Police Station against the arrested Marfuza Sultana and the absconding Zahid Mia in this incident. SI Mohammad Rashidul Islam, who led the operation, is the plaintiff in the case.
Officials of the Narcotics Control Department said that the operation to arrest the absconding accused is ongoing. In addition, regular operations are being conducted against drug dealers in different areas of the district.
