Tawhid Hossain Sarkar:  Today is June 11, World Child Labor Day In this regard, Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation Central President Advocate Atiqur Rahman and General Secretary Laskar Md. Taslim have issued a joint statement.

In the statement, the leaders said that child labor is a humanitarian, social and economic problem. A child’s place should not be in the workplace, but in the family, school and a safe environment. Ensuring the education, health, safety and normal development of children is the joint responsibility of the state, society and family.

They said that due to poverty, social inequality, inadequacy of education and lack of awareness, many children are still engaged in risky and inhuman labor. By engaging children in labor, a class of privileged moneylenders are damaging their childhood, education and potential future, which creates a major obstacle in nation building.

The leaders also said that in order to build a child labor-free Bangladesh, in addition to implementing effective laws, initiatives must be strengthened to improve the socio-economic development of poor families, ensure quality education and free higher education for all children, and increase social security to improve the quality of life.

In the statement, they called on the government, employers, labor organizations, social institutions and conscious citizens to work together to prevent child labor.

On the World Day against Child Labor, the leaders wished a safe, beautiful and promising future for all children in the country and urged everyone to come forward to build a child labor-free Bangladesh.
