Faruk Rahman, Satkhira : Little scientists’ eyes are now on ‘Smart Agriculture’ beyond the classroom. Startup, science project and innovation idea showcase competition is starting in Satkhira.

The smell of boiled rice, the sweet aroma of soil and the test tubes of the laboratory. All in all, a group of teenagers, having crossed the familiar boundaries of the classroom, are now focused on the dream of building a future Bangladesh. There are heated discussions going on in various educational institutions in Satkhira over tiffins or even in the idle time after the holidays.

The purpose is the same, what will the ‘smart agriculture’ of the future be like? How can our food be kept good for a long time without chemicals? Many people wonder how to make the best use of technology to prevent road accidents? How can products be delivered quickly with the help of robots? How can war and violence be stopped and peace be established? How to save the world from the greenhouse effect – students in Satkhira are now busy with these various discoveries.

The “Startup, Science Project and Innovation Idea Showcase” competition is being organized in Satkhira at the initiative of the Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Office. And a group of young scientists from different schools are working day and night to present their best innovations on this talent search stage.

Visiting the science lab of a school in Satkhira city, you can see the designs of various projects spread across the tables. Tenth grade student Tausif Mustafa Tausif, ninth grade student Ashekur Rahman and eighth grade student Safwan Siddique Bin – all three are very excited to do something new. Two teachers of the school, Moh. Humayun Kabir and Imran Hossain, are working as a beacon behind their dream.

The main goal of Satkhira’s young scientists is “smart agriculture and food processing”. These three students have created a great model of how farmers’ labor can be reduced and crops can be protected from spoilage through the proper use of technology.

Tausif Mostafa, a 10th grade student, says, “We are working on a system that will provide the benefits of modern technology to ordinary farmers at an affordable price.”

According to the Upazila Secondary Education Office, this science fair and competition will be held at the local Nabarun High School for Girls on June 12 from 9 am under the “Performance Based Grants for Secondary Institutions Scheme.”

A letter signed by Satkhira Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Officer (Additional Duty) Md. Abul Hossain said that at least 10 students from classes 9 to 12, led by a science teacher, have been requested to be present at the fair premises to inspect the stalls.

According to the rules of the competition, the authorities of The Pole-Star Municipal High School have already completed all the details and official procedures of the project. This emergence of students’ talent has now become bigger than the official documents of the school.

The school authorities believe that such a competition is not just a fight to win a prize, but rather a powerful tool to awaken the latent talent and innovative power within the students. These small ideas of today may change the face of the agricultural sector of Bangladesh in the future.

Time will tell whether the students will be able to win the hearts of the judges with their innovations in this exhibition in Satkhira Sadar Upazila. However, the joy and confidence that is evident in the eyes of these teenagers at being able to create something new on their own is the biggest success of this event.

Satkhira District Secondary Education Officer Md. Alamgir Kabir said that like the rest of the country, the Startup, Science Project and Innovation Idea Showcasing Competition is starting on Friday (June 12) in seven upazilas of Satkhira district.

The Sadar Upazila and District level competitions will be held at the Nabarun Girls Secondary School grounds in Satkhira city. All preparations for the competition have already been completed. It is learnt that 18 stalls have been prepared. Four of the Agriculture Department
