Mohammedan retains top spot with hat-trick win on Hridoy’s century

Sports Desk: Mohammedan Sporting Club retained the top spot in the points table with a hat-trick win in the Dhaka Premier Cricket League (DPL) on the back of captain Towhid Hridoy’s brilliant century.

Mohammedan defeated Legends of Rupganj by a huge margin of 107 runs in the eighth round of the league today. With this win, Mohammedan is at the top of the table with 14 points from 8 matches. Legends of Rupganj is at the fourth place in the table with 10 points from the same number of matches.

Mohammedan elected to bat first after losing the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Mohammedan’s two openers Mohammad Naim and Enamul Haque added 76 runs in the opening partnership of 70 balls. Naim returned after contributing 34 runs to the partnership.

After Naim returned, Enamul added 49 runs with Hridoy. He tasted a half-century during this time. Enamul scored 71 runs off 63 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes.

After Enamul returned at 125 runs for the team, Hridoy and Afif Hossain laid the foundation for Mohammedan’s big collection. They put on a 140-run partnership for the third wicket. Afif left the field with 70 runs off 3 fours and 6 sixes.

Hridoy completed his century by hitting a four off the first ball of the last over of the innings. Hridoy scored 101 runs off 106 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud’s second ball of the last over.

In addition, Mohammedan scored a big collection of 339 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs thanks to Yasir Ali’s stormy innings of 33 runs off 14 balls with 4 sixes and 1 four.
Mehedi Hasan took 2 wickets.

In reply, Legends of Rupganj opener Habibur Rahman Sohan attacked the Mohammedan bowlers from the beginning of the innings. Sohan touched the record of the fastest half-century in Bangladesh List ‘A’ cricket by completing a half-century in just 15 balls. Abahani Limited opener Parvez Hossain Emon had scored a half-century in 15 balls against Shinepukur Cricket Club last season.

Sohan could not extend his innings after a stormy half-century. Sohan scored 59 runs in 27 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes before being caught by Mohammedan spinner Taibur Rahman. On the way to playing this innings, Sohan hit 26 runs with three sixes and two fours in an over of Mohammedan pacer Nahid Rana. He also scored 20 runs with two fours and two sixes in an over of another pacer Taskin Ahmed.

After Sohan returned in the 11th over for 93 runs, no other batsman from Legends of Rupganj could play a big innings. As a result, they were bundled out for 232 runs in 34 overs. Nasum Ahmed scored the second highest 45 runs.

Mohammedan’s Rana took 4 wickets for 71 runs and Taibur took 3 wickets for 33 runs. Hridoy was named Man of the Match.
