Sports Desk:Â Iraq has qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 40 years. Iraq head coach Graham Arnold has announced a 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup. The Australian football manager has mainly relied on the players who played in the Intercontinental Play-offs.
Veteran forward Ayman Hussein, a long-time role model of the country’s football, will lead Iraq in this tournament. He is joined in the attack by Ipswich Town’s Ali Al-Hamadi and talented young talents Ali Jasim and Yousef Amin.
Defender Dari Namo has been left out of Arnold’s World Cup squad as a big name. The full-back recently left Iraq and took up Finnish citizenship. He represented the national youth team in Finland.
Arnold has considered players with European experience in the midfield. Zidane Iqbal and Aymar Sher are notable among them.
Arnold has left goalkeeper Kamil Sadiq out of training camp as a precaution against potential injuries.
Iraq qualified for their first World Cup in 40 years with a 2-1 victory over Bolivia in April. Iraq are in Group I with France, Senegal and Norway.
