Md. Kabir Hossain, Rajbari: After the Eid-ul-Azha holiday, people have started returning to various workplaces in the country including the capital after sharing the joy of Eid with their loved ones. The pressure of returning passengers has been seen on the Daulatdia-Paturia river route, one of the gateways to 21 districts in the southern region. However, no major suffering has been reported in the crossing of passengers and vehicles.
Although the pressure of passengers was comparatively low in the Daulatdia ferry and launch ghat area on Tuesday morning, the pressure increased as the day progressed. Many people traveled to the capital in private vehicles, long-distance buses and motorcycles. In addition, numerous passengers were seen crossing the Padma River by launch on local buses and three-wheeled easy bikes.
Dhaka-bound passenger Rupa Akhter said, “There was no much suffering during this Eid journey. However, I had to struggle a bit with my two small children in the scorching sun and heat.”
Ripon Sardar was returning to Dhaka on a motorcycle. He said, “This time there is no traffic jam on the road. I hope I can reach Dhaka comfortably and quickly.”
Ghat officials said that the movement of passengers and vehicles is normal due to advance preparations for Eid. As a result, there was no long traffic jam or waiting situation in the ghat area.
Md. Salauddin, manager of the commercial branch of the Daulatdia Ghat of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said, “Currently, 16 ferries and 20 launches are plying on the Daulatdia-Paturia river route. The movement of passengers and vehicles is normal and there are no complications anywhere.”
The concerned officials believe that the pressure of people returning to work after the Eid holidays may continue for a few more days.
