Special Correspondent: The government will set up a new prison in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitaku-upazila of Chittagong. However, no one will be evicted from here right away, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

He said that a malicious group is spreading rumors of eviction among the common people. However, Jungle Salimpur and its surrounding areas will definitely be made free from terrorism. He also warned that there will be no more sanctuaries for isolated terrorist groups here.

The Home Minister said this to journalists while visiting the Jungle Salimpur area on Sunday afternoon.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, “For the past 17 years, the Alinagar-Jungle Salimpur area was known as a safe haven for terrorists. We will completely free this area from terrorism through a planned and joint operation.” In addition, raids will be conducted in Betua and tea garden areas to eliminate terrorists.

The Home Minister said that strict action will be taken against drugs, terrorism, gambling and extortion across the country. These four crimes will be dealt with utmost seriousness and efforts will be made to eradicate them.

Highlighting the limitations of the existing law on gambling control, he said that it is not possible to control modern online and offline gambling or betting activities through the Gambling Act of 1867. Regarding the amendment to the Narcotics Control Act, the Home Minister said that initiatives will be taken to form a special tribunal for the speedy disposal of drug-related cases. Stating that thousands of drug cases are currently pending for years, he said that it will be possible to dispose of these cases quickly through the new legal framework.

For this reason, he said that it is necessary to bring legal reforms to deal with juvenile crime.

He also said, “We will try to make the country free from drugs, terrorism, gambling and extortion through legal reforms, planned campaigns and coordinated initiatives. Only through this will it be possible to protect the youth.”
