Madaripur in Youth arrested for selling dead beef

Md. Roman Bepary,Madaripur Correspondent: ​The police have arrested a youth named Nur Mohammad Sardar (18) on charges of selling dead beef in Kalkini, Madaripur.
He was arrested from the Fasiatola Bazar area on Sunday (May 24). The arrested Nur Mohammad is the son of local meat trader Chorab Sardar.
​According to local and police sources, although beef is usually sold at Tk 800 per kg in the Fasiatola Bazar of the upazila, Nur Mohammad and his associates suddenly started selling it at Tk 600 per kg. The price was Tk 200 per kg less than the normal market price, which aroused suspicion among local buyers. Later, as the day progressed, a foul smell started emanating from the meat. ​At one stage, when the crowd present started questioning Nur Mohammad’s associates, they admitted that the slaughtered cow had actually died earlier. After the sale of dead beef was confirmed, the angry locals immediately informed the police station. Upon receiving the news, a team of Kalkini police station quickly reached the spot and arrested Nur Mohammad and took him to the police station. However, his accomplices managed to escape soon after the incident. Since this incident, there has been intense anger and panic among the general buyers of the Fasciatola market.
​Kalkini police station officer-in-charge (OC) Zahirul Alam said that based on the information received from the locals, a young man has been arrested on charges of selling dead beef. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
