Md. Moniruzzaman, Mymensingh Correspondent: Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) has distributed free tin cans among 669 low-income families living in slum areas. The initiative has been taken to develop the marginalized community in a prosperous manner, said MCC Administrator Md. Rukunozzaman Rokon.
The tins were officially distributed among these low-income families at the Bhasha Sainik M. Shamsul Haque Muktomancha at the city’s Town Hall today (Sunday, May 24) at noon.
Md. Shariful Alam, Member of Parliament for Kishoreganj-6 constituency and State Minister for Textiles and Jute of the current government, was present as the chief guest at the event.
In his speech as the chief guest, he said, “If we do a little calculation since independence, many governments have come. But we have not seen the previous governments taking very effective steps for the welfare of the marginalized and ordinary working people. We, the people who wear pants, are busy, while we, the educated and highly educated people, pay more attention to them. Especially, you will see that cities are being built from cities. But if we do not develop the areas that we should think about for the marginalized people, the people of the villages, and if our public representatives do not think about them, then we will not be able to advance the development of the country as a whole. If we do not truly develop our development, our human resources, our humanity, our morality, and our grassroots marginalized people, then our dream of becoming economically self-reliant or reaching the peak of development will not be realized.”
The State Minister further said, the people of this country elected the Nationalist Party in the last January 12 elections. The government is working to implement the promises it made before the elections. We must have programs for the marginalized people, the poor, the helpless common people who are hardworking laborers, and we will implement them. Many of you know that within nine days of our election, we waived off the agricultural loans of the farmers, the hardworking people, especially the farmers. Every family is being given a family card. In the next financial year, 4 million families will get family cards. In this way, we are working for the farmers and the marginalized people. At this time, he praised the City Corporation’s initiative to distribute health cards to the helpless on their own initiative.
He said, today 669 families are being given tin cans. This is a very great initiative. This city corporation has a budget of lakhs and crores of taka, but in the past we have not seen anything done for the marginalized people. There has been looting here. No activities have been taken here for the welfare of the people. We have an economic crisis due to the looting of the previous government and money laundering abroad. But we want to develop Mymensingh by making joint efforts to save costs in various sectors.
The program was chaired by City Corporation Administrator Md. Rukunozzaman Rokon, and other speakers included Sadar constituency MP Abu Wahab Akanda Wahid, Muktagachha constituency MP Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Mymensingh Zilla Parishad Administrator Syed Emran Saleh Prince, and City Corporation Acting Chief Executive Officer Sumana Al Majid.
