Present Times Report:
The government has approved the expansion of Mugda Medical College Hospital’s bed capacity from 500 to 1,000, aiming to strengthen healthcare services in the capital.
According to an official order issued by the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, approval has been granted for upgrading the hospital’s existing bed capacity and launching healthcare services under the expanded arrangement.
The order states that the decision was made following a proposal from the Health Services Division, subject to compliance with relevant laws, regulations, administrative procedures, and financial provisions.
Sources concerned said Mugda Medical College Hospital is one of Dhaka’s busiest public healthcare facilities, serving a large number of patients every day.
The increased bed capacity is expected to ease patient pressure, reduce bed shortages, and improve access to medical treatment.
Healthcare stakeholders believe the expansion will significantly enhance the hospital’s service capacity, benefiting patients from Dhaka and surrounding areas.
The approval order, signed by Deputy Secretary Shukla Sarkar on May 17, 2026, was issued by the Finance Division.
Officials hope the initiative will help reduce patient suffering and further expand the reach of public healthcare services in Bangladesh.
