Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the government will fulfill the logical demands of the police force, considering financial consistency and capacity, with the aim of developing them into a pro-people and modern force.

The Minister made this remark today as a special guest at the ‘Prime Minister’s Special Welfare Meeting’ held at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium on the occasion of ‘Police Week-2026’.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the program as the Chief Guest. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, also spoke as a special guest. The welcome speech was delivered by IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, while Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khondoker Rafiqul Islam BPM delivered the vote of thanks.

The Minister noted that currently, many police constables retire after 40 years of service without receiving a single promotion. “To address this, based on special policies and satisfactory service records, a certain number of police members will be granted honorary promotions at the time of retirement: from Constable to Honorary Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), from ASI to Honorary Sub-Inspector (SI), and from SI to Honorary Inspector,” he said.

Furthermore, the Minister added that to make policing activities more dynamic and effective, the government is considering the introduction of an overtime allowance for police personnel performing duties beyond regular hours based on special policies. This initiative, potentially covering ranks from Inspector down to Constable, is expected to boost morale and improve the quality of service.

The Home Minister emphasized that central and divisional police hospitals will be modernized and upgraded with enhanced facilities to ensure the physical and mental well-being of police force. More advanced hospitals will also be constructed following necessary assessments.

The Minister mentioned that the current government is sincere about resolving housing issues and constructing buildings/offices for various police units. He noted that land acquisition and the allocation of necessary funds remain on the government’s priority list.

Highlighting a visible improvement in the country’s law and order situation over the last two months, the Minister stated that special operations are ongoing against identified terrorists, extortionists, and drug dealers. He remarked, “With the advancement of information technology, the nature and magnitude of crime have changed. Without modern training and expertise, it is impossible to achieve the desired goals in crime prevention.” He also informed that a committee has already been formed to draft more modern and up-to-date laws to prevent gambling, online gambling, cybercrime, and money laundering. Legislation will be enacted based on the recommendations of this committee.

Salahuddin Ahmed further stated that existing laws will be amended and updated to completely eradicate mob culture. He directed the police force to perform their duties in accordance with public expectations and aspirations.
