Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought the cooperation of party leaders and activists in implementing the government’s election manifesto.

He called for their cooperation and said, “The government cannot succeed without the party’s support and coordination. Therefore, we have to embark on a ‘new struggle’ to implement all the promises made to the people before the election.”

The Prime Minister said, “One of our wars has ended. Now another war has begun. That is, to implement the promises we made to the people.”

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said this at a view-exchange meeting with BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal this morning at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB) at Farmgate in the capital, under the slogan ‘Bangladesh first’.

He also said, “You were in the field in the elections held on February 12. I said the elections would be difficult. Each of you felt it at every turn. People supported our party and our election manifesto.”

Stating that the manifesto given before the election has now become the manifesto of the people, Tarique Rahman said, ‘Until the day before the election, our manifesto was the manifesto of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. After the election, especially after we formed the government, this manifesto has become the manifesto of our government and the people of Bangladesh.’

He said, ‘Because 52 percent of the people of the country who voted basically voted in favor of our manifesto. So, we have to try our best to implement what we said in this manifesto.’

The Prime Minister said, ‘Before the election, we told the people that we would provide good governance. We want to create a country where students will get a good learning environment. Men, women and children can walk safely on the streets.’

He said, when we were protesting against tyranny and fascism, we said that in view of the kind of torture and persecution we are facing, we, the leaders and activists of political parties, want a political situation in the country where we can debate and freely express our views.

Tarique Rahman said, ‘We say that the current government is a BNP government. That is, the government is right. But it is a BNP government. That is why if BNP does not cooperate, the government will not be successful in many areas.’

Earlier, this exchange of views began at 10:45 am at the Krishibid Institute (KIB) auditorium in Farmgate.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is present as a special guest in this day-long closed-door meeting.

The meeting, chaired by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, was attended by Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selima Rahman and AZM Zahid Hossain.

It is worth noting that this is the first meeting between Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the party’s field leaders after the 11th parliamentary elections on February 12.
