The Aditmari Upazila Land Office of Lalmonirhat has become a hotbed of irregularities and corruption. If you give a bribe to the surveyors of that office, Jahangir Alam, Nazir Hilton, and other office workers, all the work is done as per the demand, if you don’t, the service recipients have to suffer harassment.
Babul Mia, a person from Madanpur area of ​​Aditmari Upazila, has filed a written complaint with the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner, alleging harassment, corruption and bribery in the land office.
According to the complaint, he filed a written complaint with the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the Land Office regarding the recovery of a government road in the village. The next day, Aditmari Land Office surveyors Jahangil Alam and Nazir Hilton and another assistant of the office Mashiur Rahman called Babul Mia, a service seeker, to the office and demanded a bribe of 10,000 taka, saying that they made it clear that no work is done in this office without money. Helpless, the poor Babul, with great difficulty, collected 1,500 taka and gave it to the office surveyor Jahangir Alam. When he could not pay again, the service seeker was told to leave the office after behaving badly with Babul. He filed a written complaint with the Lalmonirhat District Commissioner about this incident.
Meanwhile, the service seekers allege that the union land offices, starting from the upazila land offices, have become reckless in the bribery trade. The Aditmari land office servers Jangangir Alam, Nazir Hilton and Mashiur Rahman, an assistant to the office, have made this land office a paradise for bribery.
The victims said that a novel strategy of corruption is used here. Especially in the case of a name transfer or rejection application, if someone applies directly according to the rules and does not pay a bribe, then this land office deliberately gives wrong information in the investigation report. For example, the land mark number is written incorrectly or the holding number is missing, the father’s name is wrong, the living person is shown as dead, name transfer at the land office, collection of rent, drawing up of land papers (drafts) and all other tasks are done without paying any government rules and are immorally bribed. No file moves without the contract money. As a result, the service seekers are forced to pay bribes in desperation. However, such allegations are not limited to the Aditmari Upazila Land Office, the same picture is seen in every union land office in the district. Land owners are fed up with corruption in the land office.
In this regard, Aditmari Upazila Land Office Surveyors Jahangir Alam and Nazir Hilton have claimed that the bribery transaction is not true.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Md. Rajib Ahsan (Deputy Secretary) said that there is no opportunity to illegally take money from the people for land services. He said that the complaint will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.
