The Savar Citizens Committee accorded a civic reception to freedom fighter and environmental activist Mukit Majumder for receiving the Independence Award 2026. The reception was held on Friday (May 8) at 5:00 PM at the Savar উপজেলা Auditorium Hall.
During the event, various photographs, video documentaries, and visual presentations highlighting Mukit Majumder’s long-standing work on nature and the environment were displayed. He is the Founder Chairman of the Nature and Life Foundation and Vice Chairman of Impress Group.
The chief guest at the event was Dr. Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-19 (Savar-Ashulia). He said, “Everyone must work together to make Savar green and livable. To protect the environment, Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is planning to plant 50 million trees every year.”
He further stated that he would provide maximum support if the Savar Citizens Committee organizes seminars, training sessions, or awareness programs for environmental protection.
Receiving the honor, Mukit Majumder said, “Healthy living is impossible without nature. We ourselves are polluting the environment—polluting the air and water. If nature survives, only then can we survive.” He called upon everyone to unite like in 1971 to protect nature.
The event was presided over by Alhaj Rahim Uddin Ahmed. Special guests included Valerie A. Taylor, founder of CRP; Ekram Ahmed Lelin, Executive Director of the Kazi Nazrul Institute; Abdullah Baki, retired Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh; retired Additional IGP Abdul Mannan PPM; and Savar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Saiful Islam.
The welcome speech was delivered by Mohammad Salauddin Khan Nayeem, General Secretary of the Savar Citizens Committee and a social worker. The program was hosted by cultural personality Abdul Kader Talukder.
Speakers at the event said the government had rightfully honored a deserving individual with the Independence Award for his contribution to environmental and nature conservation. They expressed gratitude to the government for this recognition.
The speakers also demanded effective initiatives to protect Savar’s rivers, canals, and wetlands. They urged authorities to ensure environmentally friendly development instead of destroying nature in the name of progress.
Savar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Saiful Islam said, “The administration is working continuously to build a green Savar. Cooperation from all is needed in this effort.”
