Islami Bank Employees’ Welfare Federation holds meeting with Workers’ Welfare Union

Tawhid Hossain Sarkar: If there is a conspiracy of ‘rogue gang’ surrounding Islami Bank, the country’s economy will be damaged . Monday 27 April 2026 Central President Advocate Atiqur Rahman said this at a meeting with the central leaders of Islami Bank Employees’ Welfare Union (CBA) Reg. No.-B-1802 at the initiative of Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation (Reg. No.-BAZAFE-08)

The meeting organized at the hall of the central office in the capital was attended by the central president of the federation, Advocate Atiqur Rahman, as the chief guest under the chairmanship of Central Secretary General Laskar Mohammad Tasnim.

Co-General Secretary Advocate Alamgir Hossain, Akhtaruzzaman, Trade Union Secretary Sohel Rana Mithu and Publicity Secretary Md. Hafizur Rahman were present as special guests in the meeting.
Besides, President Md. Nurul Haque, Secretary Md. Ishaq Khan Saddam, Vice President Md. Faruk Hossain, Organizing Secretary Md. Obaidullah Chowdhury, Finance Secretary Md. Amirul Islam, Office Secretary Ammar Hossain and Member Md. Aminur Rahman and other leaders were present on behalf of Islami Bank Employees Welfare Union (CBA) Reg. No. B-1802.
The speakers at the meeting demanded permanent employment of cleaners and demanded trial of the corruption allegations raised against S Alam Group subject to investigation. They alleged that due to various irregularities and corruption, the deposits of Islami Bank are decreasing, which is worrying for the country’s economy.
The Central Secretary General said in his speech that everyone should work together to establish the legitimate rights of CBA. He emphasized on conducting systematic activities to strengthen the union.

In his speech as the chief guest, Advocate Atiqur Rahman said,
The planned removal of the managing director of a bank is contrary to the spirit of present-day Bangladesh. He warned that if there is an attempt to hand over the people’s deposits to a looting group, the people and bank employees will resist it.
He also said that the efforts made to stabilize the bank by taking it out of the family system will be successful and all kinds of conspiracies will be foiled. If any group tries to destroy the stability of the bank in the future, it will be prevented.
He called on the government at the meeting to take effective steps to protect the country’s banking sector and financial institutions from the harm of any corrupt group. Otherwise, the country’s economy may face a crisis again, for which the government will have to bear the responsibility.

The speakers at the meeting emphasized the united role of workers and employees in maintaining the economic stability of the country.

On the same day, Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation (Reg. No. BAJAFE-08) held a meeting with labor leaders on the occasion of International Workers’ Day (May 1).
The meeting, held at 7:30 pm on Monday at the hall of the central office in the capital, was moderated by Central Secretary General Laskar Mohammad Tasnim. The Federation’s central president, Advocate Atiqur Rahman, spoke as the chief guest.
The meeting was also attended by Metropolitan South Secretary and Central Trade Union Secretary Md. Sohel Rana Mithu, Shipping Federation Md. Jahangir Alam Bepari, Bangladesh Income Tax Federation Committee President FM Abu Said, Bangladesh Government Vehicle Drivers Association Central Religious Affairs Secretary Md. Shuja Uddin, National Garment Sweater Workers Federation President Md. Rafiq, Bangladesh Garments Labor Congress President Shamima Akhter, United Garment Workers Federation Executive President Shefali Hossain and Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation Central General Secretary Sumaiya Islam and leaders of various organizations.
The speakers at the meeting highlighted the significance of International Workers’ Day and emphasized the fair rights of workers, safe working environment, ensuring minimum wages and implementation of labor laws. They called on the workers to remain united and demanded that the dignity and rights of the working people be ensured by recognizing their contribution to the country’s economic development.
In his speech as the chief guest, Advocate Atiqur Rahman said that sustainable development is not possible without establishing the rights of workers. He emphasized the need for a united movement to realize the fair demands of the workers and called on those concerned to formulate and implement worker-friendly policies.
The meeting also informed about various programs to make the upcoming International Workers’ Day a success.
