Bengali New Year 1433 was celebrated with colorful arrangements and great enthusiasm in Debidwar Upazila of Comilla. This traditional festival was celebrated through various programs over two days on the initiative of the Upazila administration.
The festival began on Monday, April 13 at 10 am with a writing and painting competition on the occasion of Pohela Baishakh. Students from various educational institutions of the Upazila participated and displayed their creativity.
Bengali New Year 1433 was inaugurated at 11 am on Tuesday, April 14 at the Upazila Parishad Complex with the performance of the national anthem and Rabindranath Tagore’s famous song ‘Eso He Boishakh’. The program was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Islam.
After the inauguration, a colorful Baisakhi procession was taken out with the theme “Unity of the New Year, Resurgence of Democracy”. The procession started from the Upazila Parishad premises and circled the Upazila Ground. People from different classes and professions participated in it spontaneously.
At 11:30 am, the prize distribution ceremony of the essay and painting competition and a pleasant cultural program were held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium. The entire venue was filled with songs, dances and recitations performed by local artists.
A day-long Grameen Boishakhi and Folk Fair was organized in the Upazila Parishad premises. Traditional products, handicrafts and various items of rural culture were displayed at the fair, which particularly attracted visitors.
Heads of various departments, journalists from print and electronic media and well-wishers were also present at the event.
The Bangla New Year celebrations were completed peacefully and successfully with the coordination of the overall management of the Upazila administration and the relevant sub-committees. The organizers expressed hope that such events will play a helpful role in further enriching and developing Bengali traditions and culture among the new generation.
