A discussion meeting was held in Jhalokati on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026. The meeting was organized on Sunday (March 8) at the conference room of the district administration with the theme “Today’s steps are tomorrow’s justice, let the rights of women and girls be protected”.
The discussion meeting was jointly organized by the Jhalokati District Administration and the Department of Women’s Affairs and in collaboration with the National Women’s Organization and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
The meeting was presided over by Dilara Khanam, Deputy Director of the Department of Women’s Affairs, Jhalokati. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shakila Rahman was present as the chief guest. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Saiful Islam and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Segufta Mehnaz were special guests.
TIB’s concept paper was read out by Sanak member Shimul Sultana Hepi at the event. She said that in line with the international declaration, the day is being celebrated in national and Sanak regions across the country with the theme “We want equal representation of women in politics and elections to ensure the rights and justice of women and girls.”
The discussion meeting was also addressed by Nari Unnayan Padak recipient Adumyo Nari and Sanak member Kabita Hawlader, Advocate Sakina Alam Liza, BRAC District Coordinator Farhana Tabassum, Star News and Sanak member Ismail Hossain, Village Court member Akshay Sarkar, and veteran freedom fighter and Sanak president Satyaban Sengupta.
The speakers said that everyone should work together to ensure the rights, security and dignity of women in every aspect of society. If women’s empowerment and equal opportunities are ensured, society and the state will move forward further.
Chief guest Shakila Rahman said that every person in the society along with the government should be aware of protecting the security and rights of women and girls. A better society can only be built by creating an environment of justice and equality.
At that time, officials from various government departments, media workers and women from different classes and professions were present and they expressed their opinions.
