The government has appointed six full-time administrators in six city corporations of the country, including Dhaka North and South.
The Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has made these appointments in accordance with subsection (1) of section 25A of the ‘Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Ordinance, 2024’.
This information was given in a notification issued by the Local Government Division (City Corporation-1 Branch).
Today (Monday), the ministry’s public relations officer Mohammad Gias Uddin confirmed this information.
The notification signed by the ministry’s joint secretary Mahbuba Airin said that these six individuals will serve as administrators of the respective city corporations until the corporation is reorganized or until further orders are issued.
The new appointees are – Md. Abdus Salam in Dhaka South City Corporation; Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan in Dhaka North City Corporation; Nazrul Islam Manju in Khulna City Corporation; Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury in Sylhet City Corporation; Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan in Narayanganj City Corporation and Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar in Gazipur City Corporation.
The appointed administrators will exercise all the powers and perform all the responsibilities of the mayor of the city corporation as per the ‘Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Ordinance’ and will receive allowances as per the rules.
The notification also mentioned that this order, issued in the public interest, will come into effect immediately.
