Army Chief General Waqar Uz Zaman officially inaugurated the Olympic Village on Sunday (February 1) afternoon.
Earlier, General Waqar Uz Zaman, while highlighting the basics of this Olympic complex, said, “We have been dreaming of an Olympic complex for a long time. We have seen places in different places but due to various reasons it could not be implemented. Then I decided to make an Olympic Village in the Sports School area of Trishal. All kinds of facilities will be easily available here. In this, we will be able to make a good contribution to sports at the national level. Besides, we will hold national and international level competitions here. This will be a joint effort between the army and the Olympic Association. All national and international level competitions will get priority here. Both domestic and international athletes will be able to take regular training here.”
The Army Chief further said, “We have many dreams, big dreams. You have already known what infrastructure it will have. A lot of money is needed for this. We have started it by purchasing land within a month. For this, I thank the 24th Construction Brigade and GOC 19th Infantry Division, they have done this work beautifully. But there is a lot of work here, a lot of money will be needed for this. The sooner we get the money, the sooner the complex will be built. The construction brigade is ready, the architect has also been appointed. External consultants and architects have also come, everything is set. This money has to be provided from wherever. There are owners of various banks, they will also give money. I hope that the Olympic Association will work to bring money from the Middle East as well.”
Waqar Uz Zaman said, “The Olympic Complex is a big national-level project. We want to involve more and more of our young generation, young men and women, in sports. I believe that this will be a huge work of character building. I have never seen any athlete involved in bad deeds in my life, this is the greatness of sports. No athlete ever takes drugs. That is why I think sports are very important for character building of the country’s young generation. If the facilities are increased, the young generation will not lack interest in sports. The problem is, we do not have the facilities, the environment. But if this Olympic Complex is built, a beautiful environment for sports will be created here. It will have residential and training opportunities. In addition, if a shuttle train can be arranged with this Olympic Complex, then the transportation facilities will increase further. We have dreamed, we are trying to dream. God willing, the work has started, and one day it will be completed.” Then it will be a big task for the country and the nation. One day this Olympic complex will be transformed into an international venue. Big games like the Asian Games will be held here.
The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mahabubul Alam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, Jobaidur Rahman Rana, Director of the Olympic Complex Project, Colonel Qutub, etc. At that time, various aspects of the under-construction Olympic Complex were highlighted for all those present through a self-portrait report.
