Rumin Farhana, an independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-2 (two unions of Sarail-Ashuganj-Bijaynagar) constituency, has been given a show cause notice for violating the electoral code of conduct. The order was issued in a notice signed by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan on Sunday.

The notice states that Rumin Farhana, violating the code of conduct, built a large stage in the presence of 400-500 people and delivered a political speech at a public meeting. When the public meeting was ordered to be stopped, she behaved arrogantly and disrespectfully with the Executive Magistrate and made various threats.

She has been asked to appear in person at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on January 22 at 11 am and explain in this regard, said Brahmanbaria Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ranjan Chandra Dey.

Earlier, Assistant Returning Officer and Sarail Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Abubakar Sarkar had accused Rumin Farhana of ‘creating a mob’. On Saturday, he wrote to the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee and Senior Civil Judge Ashraful Islam requesting them to take legal action.

Regarding the show cause notice, Rumin Farhana said, “I came to know about the matter from Facebook. I have not received the letter yet.”
