Important decisions have been taken with the direct cooperation of the port authorities to ensure the welfare, safety and socio-economic development of the workers working in the port of Mongla port.
Meanwhile, the workers working in the port of Mongla have already presented a total of eighteen reasonable demands, including work hours, wage increase, allowances, benefits of the Workers’ Welfare Board, insurance, medical facilities through their workers’ association (Reg. No.- Khulna-2143).
These demands were discussed in detail in a number of bilateral meetings chaired by Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, in the presence of Mongla Port Berth and Ship Operators Association (Owners Party) and workers representatives.
The eighteen-point demand raised between the owners and the workers’ representatives was highly reviewed and unanimously all the demands were settled. The most important and important demand was the increase in the wages of the workers.
In this context, the owner decided to increase the wages of the workers by 26 per cent on the normal eight (eight) hourly wages as per the existing tradition.
In addition, the issue of travel from the workplace to the workplace is particularly taken into account. In case of the workers living in the concerned area, it is decided to consider the time from the Kiara Launchghat to perform the duties before the scheduled time and return to the residence safely at the end of the duty. At the end of the duty, it was decided unanimously that arrangements would be made to ensure that the workers could reach the kiara quickly and safely by the owner’s side.
The remaining sixteen demands were settled in a phased manner on the basis of mutual understanding and consensus. Among the representatives of the owners’ party, Mongla Port Birth and Ship Operators Association President Syed Zahid Hossain, Secretary Md Zulfiqar Ali and other leaders of the workers’ party Md Alauddin, Ali Hossain and other leaders were present at the meeting. Senior officials of the Mongla Port Authority were also present at the meeting.
The leaders of the Mongla Port Berth and Ship Operators Association and the Workers’ Party expressed their sincere gratitude to the Mongla Port Authority and expressed their firm commitment to work collectively to enhance the overall development and activities of the port.
