Madaripur Correspondent:
A fertilizer dealer in Madaripur has been accused of illegally storing fertilizer in violation of government rules. The administration’s role is inactive in this incident.
The accused dealer is the messers. Jagadish Traders in Mustafapur, Madaripur Sadar Upazila. The dealer’s proprietor, Mahadev Kundu, is selling at a price 300 to 400 taka higher than the fixed price of fertilizer by showing an artificial shortage.
On Friday morning, Mahadev Kundu, proprietor of messrs. Jagadish Traders, purchased illegally with a truck of 450 bags of potash fertilizer and stored it in the warehouse.
Investigations reveal that for a long time, Mahadev Kundu, proprietor of messrs. Jagadish Traders, has been running the business of selling fertilizers to farmers in Mustafafapur Bazar, Madaripur Sadar Upazila. He has at least 15 sub-dealers under him. He is known as the largest fertilizer trader in Sadar Upazila. For this reason, he has been accused of creating an artificial crisis in the market by storing fertilizer in multiple warehouses. Due to the fertilizer crisis, farmers are having to buy at a higher price than the government-set price. In addition, he syndicates fertilizer factories and stores fertilizer in his own warehouse, not after the rules. which is completely illegal. According to the rules, fertilizers should be purchased from the government fertilizer factories and stored with the warehouse area of the officer of the department agriculture. However, this fertilizer trader stores fertilizer in his warehouse at night, without following those rules.
Farmers who are farer are not available in the market as per demand. If the price is higher than the fixed price, then there is no corruption. Farmers are to buy hard-fought fertilizers, while syndicate and sell fertilizers and make huge profits. The Agriculture Department or the Government has no problem with the matter.
After receiving the complaint, we went to Mustafapur Bazar and found that Mahadev Kundu, the proprietor of M/s Jagadish Traders, was stockpiling potassium fertilizer in his warehouse. There were no government officials outside ordinary workers. After stockpiling the fertilizer, when we asked Mahadev Kundu to show us the invoice for purchasing fertilizer from the factory, he refused to show it.
When asked about this, Mahadev Kundu, the proprietor of M/s Jagadish Traders, said, “My fertilizer is legal. The fertilizer was purchased in accordance with all the rules. You can write whatever you want.
Executive Officer of Madaripur Sadar Upazila Wadia Shabab said, “We have received several complaints against the fertilizer dealer name M/s Jagadish Traders. This matter will be investigated and action will be taken. At the same time, necessary action will be taken by conducting a raid on his warehouse.
