Nine active members of the notorious Zia Bahini were arrested along with a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and weapons-making equipment in a joint operation by the Coast Guard and Navy in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.
This information was given by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq on the night of Saturday, October 18, 2025.
He said, based on intelligence information, it is known that a group of armed terrorists in Kalarmachhara under Maheshkhali police station in Cox’s Bazar have taken hostage the local people and illegally occupied their salt fields and shrimp farms. When the local people protested, the terrorist group has been creating panic in the public by threatening them in various ways. When the local people sought help from the Bangladesh Coast Guard, the Coast Guard increased intelligence activities in the area.
In continuation of this, based on the information received, today, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12 noon, a joint operation was conducted by the Coast Guard and the Navy in the Samira Ghona, Mohammad Shah Ghona, Naya Para and Tek Para areas of Kalarmachara, Maheshkhali. During the operation, 1 foreign pistol, 8 domestic firearms, 8 rounds of fresh bullets, 15 rounds of fresh cartridges, 2 magazines, 13 domestic weapons and a large amount of weapons-making equipment, along with 9 active members of the notorious terrorist Zia Bahini, were arrested from the said area.
The arrested are Mohammad Ali (54), Manik (27), Gias Uddin (59), Salauddin (27), Shahidullah (52), Sabuj (27) and Atiqur Rahman (32) – residents of Kalarmachar, Rizwan (24) and Nadim Uddin (35) – residents of Huanak Union, Maheshkhali police station.
The process of taking further legal action against the seized evidence and the arrested terrorists is under process.
He also said that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to eradicate terrorist activities.
