Nawab Faizunnesa Debate Festival 2025 Finals Held in Laksam

Selim Chowdhury Hira: The Faizunnesa Debate Festival 2025 was held at the house of Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani in Laksam.
Al-Amin Institute emerged as the champion and A. Malek Institute (Railway High School) emerged as the runner-up.
The final phase of the Nawab Faizunnesa Debate Festival was held in Laksam on June 5 (Thursday) afternoon. The festival opened the door to practicing Faizunnesa among the young generation and the organization was praised.
The closing ceremony was held at the premises of Nawab Faizunnesa’s memorial house (now a museum) at the initiative of the Laksam Upazila administration and in collaboration with the municipality administration. The chief guest was the chief guest, Laksam Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid, and the chief guest was the head of the Election Management Reform Commission, member of the National Consensus Commission, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, and the special guest was the special assistant to the Honorable Chief Advisor on ICT, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab.
Present at the time were Laksam Thana Officer-in-Charge Nazneen Sultana, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Nazia Binte Alam, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Ahmed Ullah Sabuj, Upazila Fisheries Senior Officer Md. Shawkat Ali, Upazila Social Service Officer Anaz Chandra Das, along with officials and employees of various levels of the Upazila administration and the municipality administration, journalists, teachers of various schools, competing students and other students.
The first round of this debate festival was held at the Laksam Upazila Parishad auditorium on May 19, and the quarter-finals and semi-finals were held on May 20.
This initiative of Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid, the organizer of this debate competition around Nawab Faizunnessa, is generating great enthusiasm among the debate contestants of various educational institutions. Students from 16 schools and madrasas of Laksam have participated in this competition since the beginning.
This commendable initiative has already created interest among the teachers and students of Laksam educational institutions to know about the life and history of Nawab Faizunnessa’s philanthropic work.
Nawab Faizunnessa Chowdhurani is a pioneer of women’s education. She established a girls’ school in Comilla 7 years before Begum Rokeya was born. She established primary schools, maktabs, madrasas and girls’ schools in 14 mouzas of her estate. This great woman contributed to the establishment of numerous educational institutions in the country, including Comilla Victoria College. She established a girls’ school in Krishnanagar, Nadia district, India. While performing the holy pilgrimage, she established the Musafir Khana in Mecca Sharif.
Until now, the contribution of Nawab Faizunnesa to women’s education has not been properly presented. As a result, the contribution of this great woman remains unknown to the new generation. Conscious circles believe that this debate competition initiative can play a role in fulfilling that imperfection to some extent.
