The water of most rivers including Surma-Kushiyara in Sylhet is quite stable. However, there is heavy rainfall upstream across the border. Even though the rainfall has decreased locally, the hill slopes are receding. A young man has gone missing after falling from a boat into the Piain River in Jaflong.
In the meantime, the northeastern part of Sylhet, including Zakiganj Upazila, has been flooded due to multiple erosions in the Kushiyara dyke. 25 to 30 villages along the border have been flooded.
Meanwhile, the waterlogging in Sylhet city has improved somewhat as the rain has decreased.
Sylhet City Corporation Public Relations Officer Nehar Ranjan Purkayastha said that information is being collected by visiting the waterlogged areas in the City Corporation area. What can be done to eliminate the waterlogging is being investigated.
Mufti Qamar Uddin, a prominent social worker and businessman from Ward No. 1 Darga Mohalla area of ​​Sylhet City Corporation, said that the canal on the west side of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Dargah Gate has become narrow due to the road. That is why waterlogging is occurring there.
Zayed Ahmed, the divisional president of the Islamic Coordination Council of Sylhet, said that one of the main reasons for waterlogging in Dariapara is the Jallarpar Walkway. He said that he will submit a written application to the administrator of the City Corporation on the issue. If that is not resolved, he will take the locals along with him to take the next step. He said that people come first. The government is working to repair the state machinery with the intention that no project that is detrimental to the people will ever be accepted in Bangladesh again.
Shamim Ahmed, a prominent businessman and proprietor of Rajdhani Hotel in the Bandar area of ​​Sylhet city, said that even a little rain causes a large amount of waterlogging in one part of the suburb. However, there are big institutions here. People are suffering a lot. The drains do not have the capacity to hold water. They dig them deeply. He demanded that the concerned authorities take measures to alleviate the suffering of the people by raising the roads.
Sylhet Water Development Board Executive Engineer Deepak Ranjan Das said that the water of the Surma-Kushiyara river is flowing above the danger level at four points.
Sylhet Meteorological Department Assistant Meteorologist Shah Md. Sajeeb Hossain said that rainfall has decreased in Sylhet. 32 millimeters of rainfall have occurred in the last 24 hours. There was 404.8 millimeters of rainfall in the previous 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the upazila administration has announced the closure of the popular tourist center of Sadapathar in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet due to continuous rain and hilly terrain.
UNO Azizunnahar said that the tourist center will be opened only when the disastrous weather stabilizes.
Meanwhile, a young man has gone missing after falling from a boat into the Piain river in Jaflong of Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet. The accident occurred around 10 am on Monday in the middle of the Piain River in the area adjacent to Nayabasti in Jaflong.
The missing youth has been identified as Pabel Mia (22). He is the son of Maharam Ali of Baurbagh village in Madhya Jaflong Union No. 11.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad was seen monitoring the overall situation as the water level in the Surma River rose. He also instructed the public representatives in the flood-hit areas of Esay district to keep boats ready.
