Remove the mafia, save the country, save the port. A protest procession and rally was held in front of the Chittagong Port Building on May 27 at the initiative of the Chittagong Port Protection Workers and Employees Unity Council against leasing any port facilities including NCT CCT to domestic and foreign nationals. Earlier, the protest procession circled the main roads and reached the Nimtala Bishwa Road in front of the Port Building and held a rally.
The convener of the Chittagong Port Protection Workers and Employees Unity Council, Md. Harun, presided over the meeting and Md. Taslim Hossain Selim moderated the event, with the chief guest being the member secretary of the Metropolitan BNP, Nazimur Rahman. The special guest was the former general secretary of the Port Police Station BNP, Zahid Hasan. Md. Harunur Rashid, Nur Hossain, Md. Nazim Uddin, Iqbal Hossain, Akhtar Hossain Khan, Ibrahim Khokon, Sharif Hossain Bhutto, Mostafizur Rahman Manju, Abul Kashem, Hasan Rubel, Jahangir Hossain Maltu, Bahar, Faruk, Selim, Tutul, Imam Hossain Khokon, Md. Ershad, Pakhi and other labor leaders spoke at the time.
At that time, the speakers said that all the terminals built with the port’s funding should be operated by the port itself. They cannot be handed over to any domestic or foreign national. The contract of (PCT) Patenga Container Terminal should be canceled. The contract signed with the workers and employees should be fully implemented and the contract of CCT Terminal should not be renewed.
