Three and a half years ago, despite winning the union parishad election, Maulana Syed Ahmed, a member of the central Majlish-e-Shura of Jamaat-e-Islami and Nayeb-e-Amir of Noakhali District Jamaat, was declared defeated in the results. Finally, he was declared chairman in the court verdict.
On Wednesday (May 14) afternoon, Senior Assistant Judge Dewan Moniruzzaman of the Noakhali District Sessions Judge’s Court declared him the winner with 466 votes.
It is learned that Maulana Syed Ahmed won the central results by participating in the election with the Chashma symbol in Bargaon Union of Sonaimuri Upazila on January 5, 2022. However, due to manipulation of the result papers at the upazila level, the rival union Awami League President Md. Shamsul Alam was declared chairman.
After a long three and a half years, Syed Ahmed finally became the chairman by the court’s verdict.
His lawyer Md. Nizam Uddin said, “The Awami Fascist government snatched the people’s verdict three and a half years ago. Today the court has reversed that verdict. The Awami candidate was made the winner by tampering with the results of Kashipur Primary School, whereas Syed Ahmed was the clear winner in the central results. The results were tampered with in the Upazila Parishad. There, he was defeated by 11 votes.”
Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, Principal Maulana Syed Ahmed said, “Truth has triumphed. Truth is never suppressed—it has been proven today. This is the victory of the people. The residents of my union were deprived, so I filed a case in the Election Tribunal Court at the beginning. Today, by the grace of God, I have won. I am grateful to the people of the union.”
His son, Advocate Saiful Islam Farhad, said, “My father was shown to have lost by 11 votes by using muscle power to prevent the defeat of the Naukar candidate. Today, the court has established the truth. I hope the gazette will be published soon. I thank the court, lawyers and union residents concerned. I condemn those who took away the rights of the people through manipulation.”
Jamaat’s Noakhali city branch secretary Maulana Mohammad Mayaj, Advocate Shah Jamal and others were present at the time.
