The biennial general meeting of the Sylhet Divisional Committee of Bangladesh Photojournalist Association (BPJA) for the year 2023-2025 was held under the chairmanship of the acting president of the association, Yusuf Ali, and the direction of the general secretary, Md. Nurul Islam. In the meeting held, the first election (2025-2027) was held through ballot since the establishment of the association. Nazmul Kabir Pavel and Ashkar Ibne Amin Laskar Rabbi were elected as the president and general secretary, respectively.
The biennial elections of the BJP were held on Saturday in the hall of a prestigious hotel in Lamabazar in the city. 100 percent of the voters cast their votes in the elections.
Nazmul Kabir Pabel was elected as the president, his closest rival was Dulal Hossain. Ashkar Ibne Amin Laskar Rabbi won the general secretary post, his closest rival was Md. Nurul Islam.
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir Liton was elected as Vice President (1) and Sheikh Abdul Majid as Vice President (2). They were contested by Md. Nurul Islam and Shah Md. Qays Ahmed. Jabed Ahmed was elected as Treasurer, the closest rival being Md. Shaheen Ahmed.
In addition, SM Rafiqul Islam Sujan won unopposed as a single candidate for the post of Deputy General Secretary, Anwar Hossain for the post of Publicity and Publication, Reza Rubel for the post of Sports and Cultural Secretary, and Ajmal Ali for the post of Executive Member.
The Election Commissioners were Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir, Sylhet District Press Club President Moin Uddin, Sylhet Press Club General Secretary Muhammad Sirajul Islam and Sylhet District Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Nasir Uddin. Meanwhile, Daily Jugantor’s Sylhet Bureau Chief Sangram Singha, NTV’s Sylhet correspondent Sajal Satri, Sylhet Divisional Online Press Club General Secretary Zahurul Islam and General Secretary Bangladesh Report’s Sylhet Bureau Chief Emdadur Rahman Chowdhury Zia, Bangla TV’s camera person Alamgir Hossain, Daily Jugan’s photographer Ranjit Singh, Daily Shyamal Sylhet’s staff photographer Ajmal Ahmed Roman, well-known faces of Sylhet’s theatre, beloved faces of the Baul world Birhi Kalamia, theater actor Imtiaz Kamran Talukder, Sylhet’s best youth organizer actor Kamal Ahmed Durjoy, among others, issued statements congratulating the elected committee.
