A mother and son died after being electrocuted while saving a cow in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat. The incident took place in Dulali Harikhowa area of Goral union of the upazila this Saturday morning. The deceased are Jamal Hossain (30) and his mother Kamala Begum (65) of the village.
Police and local people said that when it suddenly started raining in the morning, one of their cows ran into a house. A battery-powered auto-rickshaw was kept charging in that house. While running away, the cow collided with the auto-rickshaw and was electrocuted. At that time, Jamal Hossain was electrocuted when he went forward to save the cow. At that time, the mother Kamala Begum was also electrocuted while saving her son. Later, local people recovered the bodies of the mother and son from the scene.
Nazma Begum, sister of the deceased Jamal, said, “When I realized what had happened, I turned off the main switch of the house and rescued my mother and brother. But by then they were dead.”
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salim Malik confirmed the incident.
